Well, here I am, ready to start chatting with my friends, family and fellow authors. Since my first children's book will be published in a few months and available for your purchase, I thought it might be helpful to tell you how I started writing in the first place.
In high school (way back in the stone ages), I wasn't especially endearing to my English teachers. Most of my writings were a C+; probably due to erroneous style or comprehension. However, it wasn't until I attended college that I began to get As and Bs for my writings. It didn't matter what the content, just so it was my own idea. I could have kissed my professors! Finally, I could write in a style that was all me.
To make a long story shorter, I gave up writing for many years before I once again brought out the pen and paper. Strangely enough, my writings began with a personal journal. I kept pages and pages of innermost thoughts in this journal. It so happened my first human interest article (from personal experience) was picked up by a local women's magazine. Of course, I didn't get paid for it, but after the first one, I submitted more that they felt worthy of publishing.
Somewhere along the line I read that women over 40 strive to write the greatest romance novel of all time. Nope, not me. I wanted to write little stories for pre-school children and those just beginning to read aloud. So, I signed up for a children's writing course. It took me over a year to complete, but it gave me the tools needed to write a publisher-worthy story. The instructors of the course thought I was best at writing non-fiction for young teens. Perhaps that will be my next book. Stay tuned!
